CZECH PIECES
Czech craftsmen gained a reputation for quality and innovation when their colour glass became the height of fashion during the late 19th century. It was not long before Czechoslovakian jewelry became equally popular. Production centered around northern regions of the country, particularly the towns of Harachov, Jablonec, and Liberec. Not surprisingly, makers took inspiration from the burgeoning glass industry and incorporated high-quality glass beads and crystal stones into their designs. Settings were produced by small local firms and were typically of yellow metal alloy, which was sometimes plated to appear as white metal. Today, Czech jewelry, particularly necklace, is especially popular with collectors in the United States.
